Reverend Father Hycienth Alia Emerges As  APC Benue State Governor-Elect

2023 Guber Poll: Rev Father Hycienth Iormem Alia of the All Progressive Congress has been declared winner of the 2023 gubernatorial election in Benue state.

Declaring the results at the Independent National Electoral Commission office located at the Jonah Jang Crescent in Makurdi, the INEC Returning Officer Faruk Adamu Kuta said that ‘Hycienth Alia of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law has been hereby declared elected’.

According to Kuta, the results of the 22 local government councils out of the 23 were elections held, the APC candidate scored 473, 933 votes followed by the PDP’s Engr Titus Uba with 223, 913 votes and Labour Party’s Barr Herman Hembe who scored 41, 841 votes. Prof Bem Angwe of the NNPP came fourth with 1, 187 votes.

Though due to a mix-up in the printing of the ballot papers for Kwande local government council, elections have been rescheduled for Tuesday 21st March 2023.

The INEC returning officer said that he has relied on section 24, sub-section 1 of the electoral act and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Federal Republic of Nigeria to declare the winner.

It was gathered  that the total number of the people who have collected their PVC’s in Kwande local government is 156, 826. Hycienth Alia leads his closest opponent with a vote difference of 250, 020.

According to the INEC returning officer, total valid votes cast was 756, 903. Total rejected votes is 11, 499 and total valid votes cast is 768, 402.
